Eldis - Conflict and Security Resource Guide
Key resource on publications in the area of: global security; insecurity and conflict prevention; complex emergencies; post-conflict reconstruction; refugees and IDPs; humanitarian and emergency assistance; conflict and vulnerable groups; child soldiers; gender and conflict; arms; rights-based approaches in conflict issues and; political economy of war. Eldis has two main sections; the first is latest news and commentary complimented by blogs. The second is a set of links to the most recently added documents. Eldis also has a section of links to other conflict websites.

World Bank Conflict Prevention and Reconstruction Unit
The World Bank's Conflict Prevention and Reconstruction Unit undertakes assessments of the cause, consequences and characteristics of conflict and highlights and disseminate lessons learned and best practices. It regularly issues Dissemination Notes, which are short notes on best practices and experiences from the field of conflict and development, mostly in relation to World Bank programs. The CPR Working Papers are more extensive and in-depth studies and analyses on issues pertinent to conflict and development, both theory and practice. The Dissemination Notes and Working Papers are widely disseminated inside and outside the World Bank, and are free of charge. In addition to regular Dissemination Notes and Working Papers from the Conflict Prevention and Reconstruction Unit, the World Bank conducts, compiles, and disseminates research and analysis on a number of topics related to conflict, poverty, and development. The most informative and useful sections of the website are the publications and news sections. The website has an excellent section of a growing body of literature on the private sector and natural resources and conflict.

Governance and Social Development Resource Centre
The Governance and Social Development Resource Centre (GSDRC) supports the knowledge needs of the international development community in relation to governance, conflict and social development. Funded by the UK Department for International Development, the GSDRC aims to help reduce poverty by informing policymaking and enhancing professional knowledge and competencies. The GSDRC has an excellent selection of documents related to security and development and violent conflict. There are also two new additions to the GSDRC website; a document library and a section on conferences and training.

International Alert
International Alert is an independent peacebuilding organisation working in over 20 countries and territories around the world. It has been at the forefront of the development of policy-related research on the role of business in peacebuilding. The focus is on three areas: extractive industries, project finance and engineering and local business.

INCORE: International Conflict Research
INCORE was established in 1993, through a joint project of the United Nations University and the University of Ulster. INCORE combines research, comparative analysis and education to address the causes and consequences of conflict in Northern Ireland and internationally. INCORE research on conflict and peace issues is interdisciplinary and wide-ranging. INCORE current focus is on: peace processes, diversity and pluralism, governance and transition, gender, peace and security, divided societies- research methodologies, education and conflict and inclusive citizenship. INCORE also offers a variety of online services to those interested in peace and conflict issues including: the Ethnic Conflict Research digest, which is a set of reviews of relevant and recent literature and, the Conflict Data Service, which is a comprehensive database on conflict-prone regions.

United Nations Development Programme/Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (UNDP/BCPR)
BCPR is one of five thematic practice areas of the UNDP. BCPR works is divided into two main outcome areas: Prevention of crisis and Recovery after crisis. Crisis is both human-made and natural-made. The website has publications on prevention and risk reduction, recovery and cross-cutting issues like gender and youth. The website also has a section on news alerts and links to other resources on conflict and disaster. BCPR also publishes an interesting and informative Crisis Prevention and Recovery (CPR) newsletter on latest news and articles from UNDP around the world.

Minorities at Risk Project (MAR)
MAR tracks 284 politically-active ethnic groups throughout the world from 1945 to the present -identifying where they are, what they do, and what happens to them. MAR focuses specifically on ethnopolitical groups, non-state communal groups that have "political significance" in the contemporary world because of their status and political actions. The MAR website has a large selection of resources, including books, journals, and links to other websites. MAR has both quantitative researches through the Minorities At Risk Data Generation and Management Program (MARGene) and qualitative research through the Minority Group Assessments and Minority Group Chronologies.

World Bank Private Sector Development in Conflict-Affected Countries
This reading list reviews the emerging international debate on the best means of encouraging private sector development in high-risk economies and ensuring that it has a positive rather than a negative impact. The resource focuses on six main areas: public interest cases for private sector engagement; business environment in post-conflict countries; evaluations of the risk of doing business in conflict-affected economies; promotion of conflict-sensitive business practices; assessment and improving infrastructure; and how to secure finances and mitigate risks. The resources are divided into three main types: websites, papers and case studies. There are also online discussions, toolkits, governance reports, and a Private Sector Development blog.

Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict
The Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) is an international network of civil society organisations working for conflict prevention and peacebuilding worldwide. The research of GPPAC is into conflict prevention, and particularly civil society's role in it, is an integral part of the Global Partnership’s programme.

The WWW Virtual Library: International Affairs Resource: Peace, Conflict Resolution and International Security Section
This a large and comprehensive resource that has links to search engines and major directories; and other sources related to peace, conflict resolution and international security.

International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) - Environment and Security (E&S)
IISD provides practical advice on how careful management of the environment and resources can contribute to conflict avoidance and disaster resilience. The website has publications on Conservation and Conflict; Disaster Resilience; Natural Resources, Livelihoods and Security; Environment and Security Policy; Emerging Environments and Emerging Security Issues.

International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) - Business and Conflict
IISD focuses on engaging natural resource-related companies, financial institutions and governments on the critical links between business and violent conflict. The website has resources on conflict-sensitive business practice; the extractive industries and conflict and; the Finance Sector and Conflict.

Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development- Conflict and Peace
The DAC Network on Conflict, Peace and Development Co-operation is the international forum that brings together officials working on conflict prevention and peace-building from bilateral and multilateral development agencies. The CPDC is a subsidiary group of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC). The website has an extensive and informative selection of publications and guidance notes related to Security System Reform and Governance; Preventing Violent Conflict; and weblinks. There are also two additional website resources the Governance and Capacity Development (GOVNET) and Development Effectiveness in Fragile States (FSG).

DFID Conflict, Humanitarian and Security Department (CHASE)
The DFID CHASE Department focuses on the links between conflict and poverty; designing interventions to conflict; conflict reduction strategies; humanitarian responses to crisis and strategies for humanitarian assistance. The website also has links to DFID’s Global Conflict Prevention Pool and on conflict analysis and security sector reform (SSR).

Human Security Programme
The Human Security Programme (HSP) is a proactive mechanism to advance the human security component of Canadian foreign policy. The Human Security Program is divided into five main thematic focuses: protection of civilians; conflict prevention; peace operations; governance and accountability and; public safety. The website has a number of publications related to the five main thematic focuses and further links to other resources.

The International Development Research Centre (IDRC)
The IDRC website has a range of resources: IDRC books online and in print; development dossiers; reports magazine; IDRC bulletin; videos; and an archive of publications. The peace, conflict and development programme has a number of publications and an extensive range of other resources of peace, conflict and development.

International Crisis Group
The International Crisis Group (Crisis Group) engages in field-based analysis and high-level advocacy to prevent and resolve deadly conflict. The Crisis Group publishes CrisisWatch, a twelve-page monthly bulletin, providing a succinct regular update on the state of play in all the most significant situations of conflict or potential conflict around the world. Crisis Group examines how competition over energy resources and the distribution of revenues affects both regional and global security.

UNIFEMs Women, War and Peace web portal
WomenWarPeace.org is intended to address the lack of consolidated data on the impact of armed conflict on women and girls as noted by Security Council resolution 1325 (2000). The portal is serves as a centralized repository of information from a wide variety of sources, with links to reports and data from the UN system to information and analysis from experts, academics, NGOs and media sources. The portal has both country and thematic issue pages and news and a selection of the latest publications related to women, war and peace.

Institute for Security Studies
The ISS is a regional research institute operating across sub-Saharan Africa. ISS aims to engage and inform the international debate on human security issues from an African perspective. The website has a particular useful selection of resources categorized by thematic issues. Of particular interest is the work on conflict analysis; corruption and governance; private security and; security sector reform.

Saferworld
Saferworld is an international non-governmental organization that works with governments and civil society internationally to research, promote and implement new strategies to increase human security and prevent armed violence. The website has a wide-ranging selection of publications based on theme: arms control transfer, conflict prevention and peace-building, conflict-sensitive development, security and justice sector development and small arms and light weapons.

Swisspeace
Swisspeace is an action-oriented peace-research institute in the area of conflict analysis and peacebuilding. Of particular use is FAST International which is an independent early warning program covering 20 countries/regions in Africa, Asia and Europe. The Swisspeace website has an extensive array of publications grouped into five main categories: new publications, working papers, conference papers, publications by staff members and an archive.

Conflict Sensitivity
Conflict Sensitivity was a two year programme designed to assist with the integration of conflict-sensitive practice into development, humanitarian assistance and peacebuilding. The website is split into four main sections. The first is the programme exploring the rationale, approach and methodology. The second is a documents page that has records of stakeholder’s meetings, a newsletter up to November 2003 and a brochure. The third a main section is the online resource pack. The fourth and final section is a links page to partner organisations.

Conflict Prevention and Post-Conflict Reconstruction Network
The CPR Network is an informal network of donor countries and partner UN Agencies dealing with the complex issues of conflict management. It arose out of an interest by DAC members of the Conflict, Peace and Development Cooperation Task Force to continue the process of sharing knowledge and experience in field operations that could serve as a guide to those working in conflict prevention and post-conflict reconstruction (CPR). The most useful component of the website is its extensive resource library of online publications. It includes resources on business and conflict, conflict analysis, assessment and prevention, early warning, natural resources and conflict, peacebuilding and security sector reform.

Collaborative Learning Projects & the Collaborative for Development, Inc.
CDA Collaborative Learning Projects is a non-profit organization, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts (USA). The most useful aspect of the website is the extensive range of publications housed in the Collaborative Learning Projects section on corporate social responsibility and business and conflict. The publications addresses issues from the hiring and contract policies through working with local authorities and stakeholder consultations to exit strategies and monitoring and evaluation through various impact assessment tools.

The Clingendael Security and Conflict Programme (CSCP)
The CSCP unpacks and explore contemporary conflicts, security threats and issues of international justice. The CSCP website has a wide-ranging selection of documents grouped into six types: Books, occasional papers, the working paper series, policy briefs, conference proceedings and annual reports.
